Project Specifications
Blackhawk Painting, Inc. supported a project that was a ground up new construction for TransTech Energy. They built a LPG Terminal in Arbuckle, CA that handles liquid propane gas. Their terminal was built to include rail service and rail car loading rack facilities. Additionally they installed four 90,000 gallon LPG storage tanks at the site. Blackhawk Painting, Inc. prepped and painted all of the steel pipping, tanks and loading racks.
Problem
With the new LPG Terminal site being unpaved and having surrounding dirt fields, wind driven dust created unfavorable conditions.
Additionally, the LPG Terminal site was under construction and other trades were working close to the areas where industrial paint would be used.
LPG Terminal Solution
Blackhawk Painting, Inc. prep all surfaces with low pressure water cleaning (AMPP W-1), solvent cleaning (SSPC-SP1), hand tool cleaning (SSPC-SP2) and power tool cleaning (SSPC-SP3).
Through careful scheduling and monitoring of the weather conditions, the wind driven dust was not a factor during the project.
Steel Surface Preparation in accordance with industry standards was performed. High build epoxy priming and then airless spray application of high performance 2 part urethane system was applied.
Our team worked during the weekend when painting the tanks, to prevent other trades on the new construction site from being exposed to paint solvent and fumes.
